I have been based in Newmarket since I first got my licence in 1989, the year after I married my wife Georgina. Since then the Newmarket facilities have been considerably improved with massive investment from the Jockey Club Estates who own the gallops. It’s no surprise that Newmarket trained horses continue to do so well due to these outstanding facilities trainers have on their doorstep.
It is safe to say that life has changed a bit for us since those early days. We now have nearly 100 horses in training, not to mention three children, Alex, Amy and Nick all at boarding school!
We have been very lucky that Fitzroy House has been our home. It has been one of the country’s most successful stables over the years and has been the base for five Derby winners since it was founded in the late 19th Century. I was delighted to maintain the tradition when Motivator, owned by the Royal Ascot Racing Club, won the 2005 running of, arguably, the world’s most famous race.
Fortunately we have not been a one horse stable and have won over 850 races. This includes nearly 70 Group or Listed races, with other prestigious wins coming from the likes of Red Evie, Pass the Peace, Zanzibar, Hoh Magic, Ancestral Dancer and many more.
